Purpose

The purpose of the conference is to bring together graduate students working with primary sources in Indology so that they can build contacts and present, discuss and publish their research. Since such opportunities are largely lacking for fledgling students of Indology, the first symposium was inspired by a wish to provide a public platform for graduate and post-graduate students to share their work in a co-operative and encouraging atmosphere.
Realising the aspirations of the first organising committee (Oxford 2009), the IIGRS has become an annual event, held at different universities across Europe. The following symposia maintained the platform which has been initiated, in order not only to help the participants enhance their careers, but also to foster an ongoing dialogue and a sense of community amongst future generations of Indological researchers.

The proceedings of the conference have initially been published by Oxbow Books Press in the series entitled Pupikā: Tracing Ancient India Through Texts and Traditions. Contributions to Current Research in Indology.
From the sixth volume onwards, the series is distributed under an open access licence by the new publisher Heidelberg Asian Studies Publishing (HASP).
